Imran Khan vows legal battle after Toshakhana II verdict

PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has issued a strong message from Adiala Jail, urging Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to initiate a street movement as he pledged to continue what he described as a struggle for “real freedom,” saying he is prepared to face any consequences.

While speaking to lawyers after the verdict in the Toshakhana-II case, Imran Khan sharply criticized the judicial process, claiming the ruling was rushed and lacked legal merit. He said only written judgments are announced and argued that, like previous cases over the past three years, the verdict came without proper evidence or fair hearings for him or his legal team.

Khan also spoke about the conditions of his imprisonment, alleging that he and his wife are being subjected to mental pressure through prolonged solitary confinement. He claimed they are denied access to books, television, and regular meetings, adding that even reading material sent by family members is being blocked. According to him, these conditions have not weakened his determination.

Addressing the treatment of women, Khan expressed anger over what he described as harsh actions against female political figures and relatives. He said cultural and religious values protect women even during conflict, yet women connected to political activity are allegedly being mistreated. He specifically mentioned Bushra Bibi, Dr Yasmin, and Maherang Baloch, calling their treatment unjust and unethical. He added that his wife, who he said has no political role, has been placed in isolation purely out of hostility.

Khan declared that the rule of law no longer exists in the country, comparing the current situation to past judicial support for authoritarian rule. He praised judges who resist pressure and called them heroes, urging lawyers to lead the fight for justice, which he described as essential for moral and economic stability.

Imran Khan and his wife have been sentenced to 17 years each in the Toshakhana-II case. He said he has full confidence in his legal team, led by Salman Safdar, and confirmed plans to challenge the verdict in the Islamabad High Court.
