Senior government officials have strongly defended the Toshakhana Verdict, saying it proves that accountability now applies equally to the powerful and ordinary citizens.
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar stated that justice must prevail and no one should be considered innocent by default. He said the verdict shows that even influential figures are now accountable under the law.
Tarar highlighted that the case involved deliberate undervaluation of a state gift, causing losses worth crores of rupees. He emphasized that political statements cannot override legal facts, and the court delivered the verdict based on clear evidence.
He also criticized PTI leaders for using religious narratives to defend their actions, claiming punishment was due to references to the “State of Madinah” rather than legal violations.
PML-N Senator Rana Sanaullah said the case is fully documented, including gift receipts, fake Toshakhana entries, and market valuations. He added that the accused first changed the valuation law and later violated it, making denial impossible.
Senator Sanaullah stressed that the Toshakhana Verdict aligns with the PTI founder’s own statements during his tenure. He also called for progress in other pending cases, including May 9 incidents, and emphasized that courts have acted fairly.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry described the case as “open and shut.” He said PTI had no defense, and undervalued jewelry worth billions was allegedly kept for only a few million rupees. He added that even low-value items like mobile phones were retained, highlighting the seriousness of the violations.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari called the verdict a wake-up call, saying it exposed manipulation of Toshakhana rules. She stressed that rulers must be the most accountable and that politics should focus on public welfare rather than personal enrichment.
