Pakistan Strengthens Legal Case for Shahzad Akbar, Adil Raja Extradition (1)

Pakistan has made significant progress in efforts to bring back former accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar from the United Kingdom, officials told SAMAA. The federal government has shared detailed legal documents with British authorities to support the extradition request.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi formally handed over the dossier to the British High Commissioner, which includes comprehensive details of ongoing cases and court proceedings against Shahzad Akbar. The government is pursuing extradition matters on a case-by-case basis.

The documents contain information on three criminal cases registered against Shahzad Akbar in Islamabad. Two cases are registered at the Secretariat Police Station, and one at Kohsar Police Station. They also include details of Akbar’s conviction by a NAB court, as well as cases filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Shahzad Akbar has also been declared a fugitive by a local court.

Alongside Akbar, the dossier includes evidence against Adil Raja, whom Pakistan has also requested to be extradited. The government claims both individuals are accused of spreading propaganda from abroad.

Earlier, Interior Minister Naqvi visited the British Home Office in London, where he met UK officials to formally request the extradition of the wanted individuals. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Mohammad Faisal, was present during the discussions.

Prior to the UK visit, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott met Naqvi in Islamabad. The meeting focused on Pakistan-UK relations, security cooperation, and the repatriation of Pakistanis residing illegally in the UK. The extradition of Shahzad Akbar and Adil Raja was a major part of the discussions.

Naqvi stressed that both individuals are wanted in Pakistan and should be extradited immediately. He said the government has provided solid evidence supporting the legal action against them.
