Government Plans To Complete 200-Bed Cancer Hospital In Islamabad By 2026

The federal government has announced plans to complete a 200-bed cancer hospital in Islamabad by 2026. The hospital aims to provide specialized care and treatment facilities for cancer patients in the capital.

During a National Assembly session, the federal health minister highlighted preventive measures for breast cancer. He shared that Pakistan recorded 376,998 breast cancer cases in 2023, with 25,796 women losing their lives. The planned cancer hospital will provide essential public sector treatment options for patients currently facing limited facilities.

The minister emphasized ongoing awareness campaigns to encourage early diagnosis and preventive care. He noted that Pakistan’s healthcare system largely focuses on treatment rather than prevention, calling it a “sick-care system.” He also mentioned poor sanitation, warning that many citizens face health risks from contaminated water.

MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan raised concerns about rising cervical cancer cases. The health minister responded that there is no consolidated national record for the disease. He suggested using national identity card numbers as medical identification to centralize health data. He added that over 5,000 women die from cervical cancer annually and highlighted the government’s commitment to preventive care and awareness programs for young girls.

The cancer hospital in Islamabad is part of the federal government’s broader plan to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. Officials say the hospital will play a vital role in providing timely diagnosis, specialized treatment, and advanced care for cancer patients.
