A young girl reportedly fell into an open drain in the Baldia Town area of Karachi, raising concerns over public safety and inadequate municipal infrastructure. Local residents said the incident occurred due to uncovered and poorly maintained drains in the locality.
Eyewitnesses stated that the girl slipped while walking near the drain, which lacked proper fencing or warning signs. Neighbours and passersby rushed to her aid, helping pull her out and calling emergency services for assistance. Fortunately, she sustained minor injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Residents of Baldia have long complained about open drains and sewerage issues in the area, claiming that similar accidents have occurred in the past. They urge the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to take immediate measures to cover drains, repair damaged infrastructure, and install safety barriers to prevent further incidents.
Emergency response teams, including local police and rescue workers, reached the scene quickly to provide aid and secure the area. Authorities have assured the public that steps will be taken to improve safety in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
The incident has sparked renewed criticism of municipal authorities for failing to maintain proper drainage systems, particularly in residential areas. Citizens are demanding stricter oversight and immediate action to ensure such accidents do not happen again.
Meanwhile, social media users in Karachi have shared images and videos from the scene, highlighting the risks posed by open drains and calling for accountability. City officials have acknowledged the issue and promised that a plan to cover exposed drains in high-risk areas will be implemented soon.
