According to the letter, AI labs are currently engaged in a “out-of-control race” to develop and deploy machine learning systems “that no one — not even their creators — can understand, predict, or reliably control.”

The open letter stated that “AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity.”
“We should develop powerful AI systems only when we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable.”
