Pakistani dramas, which have long been popular in India, were recently removed from Netflix in the country, sparking controversy among fans and industry insiders.
Actor and singer Farhan Saeed suggested that the ban is unofficial but motivated by concerns that Pakistani content could overtake Indian shows in popularity. New Delhi reportedly fears that Pakistani dramas are gaining significant traction, particularly among younger audiences. Saeed noted, “Pakistan needs to focus on global platforms, as the new generation enjoys our dramas, and viewers across the border actively seek them out.”
Pakistani dramas have consistently won praise in India for their storytelling, characters, and performances. Many Indian actors and industry figures have lauded these serials and even encouraged local production houses to create similar content, reflecting the universal appeal of Pakistan’s drama industry.
Saeed’s remarks highlight the growing influence of Pakistani entertainment internationally, demonstrating that these dramas are not only watched but actively sought by audiences abroad. India’s move raises broader questions about cross-border cultural exchange and presents both challenges and opportunities for Pakistan’s entertainment sector on global streaming platforms.
