The 2nd International Boxing Championship is currently underway in Lahore, featuring 44 boxers from 15 countries. The event runs from November 26 to 29 under the theme “Fight for Glory.”
The championship highlights Pakistan’s growing role in global sports. International athletes arrived between November 20 and 23 and were warmly welcomed, showing the country’s hospitality.
Organizers include the Punjab government, Lahore Corps, and Fauji Foundation. Alongside the matches, a boxing convention is being held to unite athletes, coaches, and enthusiasts.
On the first day, boxers from Germany, Thailand, the Netherlands, and Pakistan competed. Winners included Asim Zaman from Pakistan and Zeena Nasr from Germany. Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah attended the matches.
Day two saw 14 fighters from the UK, Ghana, Dominican Republic, USA, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Victors included Tom Dearing (UK), Jeremiah Peralta (Dominican Republic), Muhammad Waqas (Pakistan), Jahangir Khan (Pakistan), Steve Jeffard (USA), Imad Naseeb (UK), and Raza Hamza (UK). Punjab Chief Secretary attended as a special guest.
On the third day, boxers from South Korea, Thailand, USA, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Philippines, UK, Nigeria, and Bangladesh competed. Winners included Connor Mustapha, James Medcalf, and Sahir Iqbal (UK), Alberto Palmita (Argentina), Lawrence Newton (USA), and Yakum (South Korea). Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was present.
The final day on November 29 will feature Pakistan’s Falcon Waseem in the headline match. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will attend, marking a high-profile conclusion to the boxing championship.
