China has strongly condemned Japan’s plan to deploy medium-range missiles on Yonaguni Island, just 110 km from Taiwan.
Beijing called the move provocative, accusing Japan of aligning with U.S. strategy and escalating regional tensions.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson warned that Japan is drifting from its “exclusive self‑defence” policy.
China also announced retaliatory measures, including halting seafood imports from Japan and issuing travel warnings for its citizens.
The deployment has raised concerns over increased militarization near the Taiwan Strait.
China views Taiwan as part of its territory and sees foreign military presence near the island as a direct threat.
Experts say the move could further strain China-Japan relations and destabilize regional security.
Authorities in both countries continue to monitor the situation as diplomatic tensions rise.
