The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has reinstated its earlier policy that requires major commercial and industrial consumers to install two meters on their power connections. The decision follows a recent internal review that highlighted issues in the accuracy of recorded data.
According to officials, Lesco had previously restricted the installation of backup meters to protect sensitive data stored in its control room. However, irregularities discovered in meter readings prompted the company to rethink the policy. As a result, the utility has now allowed the use of non-AMI smart meters as backup meters for eligible consumers.
Lesco stated that the updated policy aims to improve transparency and ensure that energy consumption is recorded without discrepancies. The company clarified that non-AMI smart meters may be sourced from any manufacturer, giving consumers more flexibility in choosing suitable equipment.
