Azerbaijan Invites PM Shehbaz and Gen Asim Munir to Parade

Azerbaijan’s President has extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir to attend the upcoming Victory Day Parade in Baku. The invitation was conveyed during a telephonic conversation between the two leaders on Friday.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the call focused on strengthening bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and ongoing collaboration in defense and strategic affairs. During the discussion, the Azerbaijani President praised Pakistan’s consistent support for Azerbaijan on international platforms and highlighted the deep-rooted historical relationship between the two countries.

Victory Day in Azerbaijan is observed to commemorate the liberation of territories in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The parade is considered a symbolic national event, attended by key military and political figures from friendly nations. If confirmed, this will mark a significant display of Pakistan-Azerbaijan defense partnership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Azerbaijani President for the invitation and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, defense, energy, and cultural exchanges. He stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with Azerbaijan and looks forward to enhancing collaboration in diverse sectors.

General Syed Asim Munir’s potential attendance highlights the growing military-to-military cooperation, particularly in defense manufacturing, training programs, and intelligence coordination. In recent years, the two countries have increased joint military exercises and defense supply agreements.

The leaders also discussed regional stability and expressed hope for peaceful and cooperative relations among neighboring states. Both sides reaffirmed their stance on working together in international forums, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The conversation took place at a time when the Pakistani government is actively reviewing services and institutional performance at the domestic level. Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspected operations related to national identity and documentation systems in Lahore, reflecting ongoing administrative reforms aimed at improving citizen services a development NADRA and passport service improvements

Diplomatic analysts believe the invitation to Pakistan’s leadership is another step forward in reinforcing strategic ties between Islamabad and Baku. The two countries already support each other on global issues, including Kashmir and Karabakh.

If accepted, the participation of Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership in the Victory Day Parade will serve as a symbol of unity, mutual respect, and strengthening geopolitical alignment between the two nations.
