Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operations came to a standstill nationwide after aircraft engineers launched a protest over unpaid dues and delayed salaries. The sudden strike left passengers stranded at airports across the country, causing widespread frustration and flight cancellations.
Engineers have refused to resume work until their financial demands are met, citing months of neglect by the airline’s administration. Many travelers were seen waiting for hours at major airports including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, with no clear updates on flight schedules.
According to reports, PIA’s engineering staff claim that repeated promises from management were not fulfilled. They argue that without immediate action, the airline’s safety and maintenance operations could be compromised.
PIA officials have acknowledged the issue and said talks are underway to resolve the crisis. However, no agreement has yet been reached between the engineers’ union and management representatives.
The strike has not only grounded domestic flights but also disrupted several international routes, worsening the national carrier’s operational challenges. Passengers are being advised to contact PIA helplines before heading to airports.
A senior aviation source confirmed that if the deadlock continues, further delays and cancellations are expected in the coming days, adding to the airline’s already fragile financial situation.
