PM Shehbaz Sets Record With 34 Foreign Visits In 18 Months (1)

PM Shehbaz Sharif has set a new record by completing 34 foreign visits in just the last 18 months, reflecting his government’s active diplomatic and economic outreach. Officials say these visits aimed to strengthen Pakistan’s international partnerships, attract investment, and promote regional stability.

According to sources cited by ProPakistani, the prime minister made these trips between March 2024 and October 2025, with Saudi Arabia emerging as his most frequent destination. The focus on Riyadh highlights Islamabad’s growing economic and strategic ties with the Gulf kingdom.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, PM Shehbaz made two visits each to China, the United States, and Egypt. Officials describe this as part of a broader effort to expand trade, enhance cooperation, and build trust with key global partners. They claim the outreach has already resulted in new investment pledges from Gulf states and stronger diplomatic engagement with major powers.

Government representatives say the visits were not just ceremonial but strategically important. According to them, PM Shehbaz’s international engagements are part of a plan to revive Pakistan’s struggling economy and secure long-term partnerships. The goal, they say, is to attract foreign direct investment and improve the country’s global image.

However, opposition leaders have sharply criticized the prime minister’s travel frequency. They have accused the government of indulging in “luxury diplomacy” while ordinary Pakistanis face rising inflation and unemployment. Critics argue that the resources spent on frequent trips could have been used to address domestic challenges.

In comparison, President Asif Ali Zardari made only three foreign visits during the same period, a contrast that opposition parties have used to question the government’s priorities.

Despite the criticism, officials close to PM Shehbaz maintain that his foreign tours are essential for Pakistan’s long-term growth and global standing. They say these engagements are helping open new doors for investment, trade, and diplomatic cooperation.
