Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has held the federal government’s policies responsible for the recent resurgence of terrorism in the province. Speaking on Monday, he said that flawed decisions at the national level have worsened the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Afridi stated that despite the provincial government’s efforts to maintain peace, poor coordination and inconsistent strategies from the Centre have hindered long-term stability. He emphasized that terrorism cannot be effectively curbed unless federal and provincial authorities adopt a unified and practical approach.
“The rise in militant activities is the result of policies that failed to address ground realities,” Afridi said. He added that the people of KP have suffered the most from the ongoing wave of terrorism and deserve stronger protection from the state.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the province has long served as the frontline in the fight against extremism. He urged the federal leadership to focus on strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improving border management, and ensuring better support for the police and security forces operating in the region.
Security experts agree that the surge in terrorist attacks reflects broader policy challenges. They argue that without a comprehensive national counterterrorism framework, regional administrations like KP are left to deal with the consequences.
The issue of governance and accountability has recently become a focal point across Pakistan. Just days ago, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched an inquiry into alleged misuse of development funds in Sindh’s irrigation sector, highlighting how poor oversight contributes to instability and public mistrust as detailed in NAB Launches Probe into Corruption in Hala Irrigation Division.
Afridi concluded by reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in KP but stressed that lasting success depends on policy correction at the federal level. He called for collective national action to restore public confidence and prevent further loss of life.
