US President Donald Trump has pledged to take steps to ease the rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following days of escalating border clashes and military operations.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to Israel, Trump said he was aware of the growing strain between the two neighboring countries and planned to address the issue after returning from the Middle East. He described himself as “an expert in resolving wars” and expressed confidence in helping to calm the situation.
The US President also recalled his earlier involvement in preventing a possible war between Pakistan and India, claiming he did so “through tariff measures.” He said his goal was not personal recognition or awards but to “save millions of lives” through diplomacy and conflict resolution.
Trump stated that he takes pride in efforts that contribute to peace rather than conflict, adding that he would “look into the issue closely” once back in Washington.
Meanwhile, tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have continued to escalate. According to military reports, the Pakistan Army launched a strong retaliatory operation following recent attacks by Afghan Taliban and an India-backed militant faction known as Fitanat-ul-Khawarij.
The operation reportedly destroyed multiple enemy posts and temporarily took control of 21 positions near the border. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that Pakistan conducted both aerial and ground strikes, eliminating over 200 Taliban fighters and militants associated with the group.
The clashes resulted in the martyrdom of 23 Pakistani soldiers who defended the nation’s borders with bravery and determination.
As global attention turns to the situation, Trump’s statement signals a potential diplomatic push from Washington to de-escalate the crisis and promote stability in the region.
