Amazon is preparing to launch satellite-based broadband internet services in Pakistan by the end of 2026, marking a major step in the country’s digital transformation. The initiative will be implemented through Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite project, known as Project Kuiper.
The announcement came after a strategic meeting between Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and a delegation from Amazon’s Project Kuiper. The meeting focused on enhancing Pakistan’s internet infrastructure and supporting the government’s digital inclusion goals.
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s ambitious LEO satellite broadband network, designed to deliver fast and reliable internet to underserved areas worldwide. The project aims to provide high-speed connectivity, particularly in regions where traditional broadband services are limited or unavailable.
According to the Ministry of IT, Amazon’s initiative will help strengthen Pakistan’s communication network and bring affordable internet to remote communities. The company plans to establish ground infrastructure, including gateway stations and Points of Presence (PoPs), to ensure smooth integration with the country’s existing digital ecosystem.
Shaza Fatima praised Amazon’s efforts, stating that Project Kuiper’s entry into Pakistan aligns with the government’s vision of building a Digital Nation. “Every citizen should have access to fast, affordable, and secure internet, regardless of geography,” she said.
Project Kuiper will deploy a constellation of 3,236 satellites, offering download speeds of up to 400 Mbps through low-cost terminals. The service aims to improve connectivity, foster innovation, and bridge the digital divide across Pakistan.
The collaboration between Amazon and the Government of Pakistan is also expected to attract foreign investment and create new opportunities for the local IT and telecom sectors.
With Amazon entering Pakistan’s satellite internet market, the country is moving closer to achieving universal internet access and a stronger digital economy.
