The Sutlej River has entered a medium flood stage after India released a large volume of water upstream. Authorities have issued alerts for low-lying and riverbank areas in Punjab, urging residents to take safety precautions.

According to flood monitoring officials, the water flow at Ganda Singh Wala has surged to around 115,000 cusecs, marking a clear rise from the earlier low flood level. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the current level may persist for up to 48 hours, depending on additional rainfall and upstream discharges.

The PDMA has instructed district administrations to stay on high alert. Emergency response teams, irrigation staff, and rescue units have been deployed to monitor river embankments and critical points. Citizens have been advised to avoid crossing flooded areas and to stay updated with official announcements.

Experts say the rise in the Sutlej River is mainly due to heavy rains and upstream water releases from India. Similar patterns have been observed in recent years, often resulting in seasonal flooding in Punjab’s border districts. Local authorities have already started inspecting flood protection infrastructure and drainage systems to prevent damage.

Meanwhile, water levels in other rivers such as Ravi and Chenab remain below the danger mark but are also showing a gradual increase. Officials continue to monitor all inflows and outflows closely to ensure timely action if conditions worsen.

As the Sutlej continues to swell, coordinated action between disaster management agencies and local administrations is essential. Preparedness, early warnings, and quick relief measures will play a key role in minimizing the impact on communities.
