The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued an arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with a case related to the November 26 protest. The case was registered at the Sadiqabad police station under anti-terrorism laws.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the court rejected Aleema Khan’s plea for a one-day exemption from personal appearance. The ATC directed that she be formally indicted on October 11 and must appear in person on that date.
Prosecutor Zaheer Shah informed the court that the power of attorneys for Aleema Khan’s lawyers, Muhammad Faisal Malik and Hasnain Sumbal, were missing from the case record. He argued that without these documents, the counsels could not legally represent her in court. The prosecutor maintained that a valid power of attorney is necessary to establish a client-lawyer relationship.
After hearing the arguments, the ATC issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan and ordered the police to ensure her appearance at the next hearing. The court emphasized that all legal formalities must be completed before the indictment process begins.
The case stems from protests held on November 26, during which several PTI leaders and supporters were booked under anti-terrorism charges. The protests were part of a larger movement that led to several clashes and arrests across Punjab.
Legal analysts say the case adds to the growing list of legal challenges faced by senior PTI figures since last year’s political unrest. The indictment of Aleema Khan will mark another key development in the ongoing investigations into the protest-related cases.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 11, when the court is expected to formally begin proceedings against Aleema Khan.
