The Punjab government has approved a massive relief package for flood-affected communities, providing financial assistance to families, farmers, and residents across the province. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where a 171-point agenda was finalized.
Officials described the initiative as one of the largest provincial relief efforts in recent years. The package includes direct compensation for those who lost loved ones, homes, or livestock due to the devastating floods. For housing losses, the government announced Rs1 million for the complete destruction of a brick house, and Rs300,000 for partial damage. Owners of katcha (mud) houses will receive Rs500,000 if their homes collapsed fully, and Rs150,000 for partial damage.
Farmers and livestock owners have also been included in the relief package. Families who lost large animals will be compensated with Rs500,000, while those who lost smaller animals will get Rs50,000. The cabinet stated that relief cheques will start being distributed from October 17, ensuring swift support for victims.
Authorities highlighted that the package not only provides immediate financial relief but also reflects the government’s commitment to long-term recovery. By compensating housing and livestock losses, the initiative aims to help rural families rebuild their livelihoods and return to stability.
