An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Quetta and nearby areas on Sunday evening, sparking panic among residents. Tremors were felt at around 6:29 PM, prompting people to rush out of their homes while reciting Quranic verses in fear.
According to the Seismological Center, the quake struck at a depth of 25 kilometers, with its epicenter located 65 kilometers west of Quetta. The sudden jolts caused alarm across the region, though the intensity was moderate.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that, as of now, no casualties or damage to property have been reported. Officials added that they are maintaining close contact with local district administrations to monitor the situation.
Authorities have advised residents to stay cautious and prepared for possible aftershocks while assuring that emergency response teams remain on alert. The tremor is the latest reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity.
