Abu Dhabi is preparing to introduce a modern tram system that will link Zayed International Airport with the city’s most famous attractions. The network will provide direct connections to Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Yas Mall, and Yas Marina Circuit. Officials also said future expansions could extend the line to Disneyland.
The Abu Dhabi Light Rail project was presented by the Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADT) at Global Rail 2025. The masterplan revealed details of the Urban Loop and Tram Line 4. Both are designed to serve Yas Island and nearby residential areas, including Al Raha.
The project will be completed in three stages. It will feature a central depot near Etihad Airways’ headquarters, modern high-speed stations, and new parking facilities. Later phases will extend the tram service into Khalifa City and more parts of Yas Island. Construction is set to begin in 2026, while operations are expected to start by 2030.
Saeed Salem Al Suwaidi, CEO of ADT, said the company aims to “reimagine” urban mobility. He emphasized the importance of smart infrastructure, integrated transport, and data-driven solutions to create connected and sustainable cities.
In line with this plan, ADT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Airports. The agreement seeks to promote integrated public transport across the emirate. Officials said the collaboration will improve passenger experience, support communities, and encourage economic growth.
Once completed, the tram will play a major role in Abu Dhabi’s transport system. It will create a sustainable and reliable connection between the airport, Yas Island’s leisure hubs, and nearby residential districts. The project is expected to transform travel for both residents and tourists, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for innovation and urban development.
