Indian Air Force Chief Claims Downing Five Pakistani F-16 And JF-17 Jets

The Indian Air Force has sparked fresh debate with new claims about the May 2025 air battle with Pakistan. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh stated that Indian forces destroyed five Pakistani aircraft, including JF-17s and F-16s.

Speaking at the annual day press conference of the Indian Air Force, Singh said their system confirmed the destruction of high-tech fighters. “We have evidence of one long-range strike and five fighters, between the F-16 and JF-17 class, that were downed,” he told reporters.

However, Singh avoided answering questions about India’s own losses during the conflict. When asked, he declined to share numbers, saying, “I will not respond.” He also challenged Pakistan to provide proof if Indian aircraft were shot down.

The statement has faced criticism for overlooking visible evidence of Indian losses. Wreckage of Rafale and MiG-29 aircraft was widely circulated during the conflict. Images even showed parts of damaged jets being carried away on tractors in rural areas.

Pakistan’s Air Force had claimed the downing of seven Indian aircraft during the clash. The announcement was backed by international voices, including US President Donald Trump, who confirmed the loss of seven planes. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also raised the matter at the United Nations, praising the performance of Pakistan’s fighter pilots.

India’s own Chief of Defense Staff Anil Chauhan and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi have raised questions about missing Rafale jets. Critics accuse the Modi government of avoiding transparency while relying on denials.

Meanwhile, Pakistan displayed evidence to support its claims, while the Indian Air Force continues to stand by its version of events. The lack of clarity has left the May 2025 air battle shrouded in controversy.

This latest claim by the Indian Air Force adds to the ongoing dispute, with both nations presenting conflicting narratives about the scale of losses.
