A low-pressure system over the northeast Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a depression, raising the chance of another rain spell in Karachi by Friday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued its third tropical cyclone alert, noting the system—initially over India’s Gujarat—has moved westward and is now about 310 km southeast of Karachi. Winds up to 55 km/h could create rough sea conditions, prompting warnings for Sindh’s fishermen to stay away from deep waters until October 3.
Although Tuesday’s rain-causing system has weakened, it has not fully dissipated, keeping the possibility of more showers alive. On Wednesday, Karachi saw clear to partly cloudy skies, with temperatures peaking at 33.5°C and humidity at 56%.
PMD officials stressed that while the system poses no immediate threat to Karachi or coastal Pakistan, favorable conditions could help it evolve into a cyclone, potentially bringing rain and strong winds to Sindh’s coastal belt.
