After the October 1 deadline passed, Islamabad police launched a crackdown on motorcyclists without helmets or valid number plates.
Traffic police had set October 1 as the cutoff date for riders to buy helmets and install official Excise-issued plates, warning of strict penalties for violations. Offenders now face heavy fines, vehicle impoundment, and even possible jail time.
A police spokesperson quoted Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Hamza Humayun, who stressed that bikers must also avoid one-wheeling, lane violations, and riding without silencers. He said the campaign began immediately after the deadline’s expiry.
The CTO added that authorities are already acting against one-way violations and advised motorcyclists to secure driving licences or learner’s permits by October 7. He noted that most road accidents this year stemmed from motorcyclists’ negligence, warning that tough measures will continue to curb dangerous riding practices.
