The Punjab government has initiated a major crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles to combat rising smog across the province.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, directed all Chief and District Traffic Officers to take strict action, stopping unfit vehicles from entering highways and giving no concessions to violators.
As part of the campaign, traffic police will inspect route permits and fitness certificates, while also targeting trucks and carriers transporting sand or mud without tarpaulin covers, a key source of dust pollution.
DIG Nazir highlighted that the number of vehicles causing smog has surged by 240 percent this year, emphasizing that controlling emissions is vital for reducing environmental risks and safeguarding public health.
