UAE Confirms Timings for 3 Supermoons and 3 Meteor Showers in 2025

As 2025 nears its end, skywatchers in the UAE can look forward to a celestial treat with three consecutive supermoons — including the year’s largest — and three dazzling meteor showers.

Supermoons
A supermoon occurs when a full moon aligns with the moon’s closest orbit to Earth, appearing brighter and larger. Khadijah Al Hariri of the Dubai Astronomy Group said the upcoming events will be visible across the UAE with a clear horizon.

  • October 7 – Hunter’s Moon: Linked to hunting season preparations.
  • November 5 – Beaver Moon: Named after beaver lodge-building and trapping season.
  • December 5 – Cold Moon: Associated with the longest nights of the year.

The moon appears largest near the horizon, best viewed after sunset or before sunrise. Deserts, beaches, or high ground are ideal for clearer views. Photographers are advised to frame shots near landmarks, use tripods, and adjust exposure.

Meteor Showers

  • October 21 – Orionids: Up to 20 fast meteors per hour, from Halley’s Comet.
  • November 17 – Leonids: Around 10–15 meteors per hour, linked to Comet Tempel-Tuttle.
  • December 14 – Geminids: Over 100 colorful meteors per hour, one of the year’s best.

For the best experience, residents should head away from city lights, lie back for a wide view, and be patient, as meteors appear at random.
