Prime Minister PM Shehbaz Sharif met with Bill Gates, founder of the Gates Foundation, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.
The meeting focused on three key areas: polio eradication, improved nutrition, and flood relief efforts in Pakistan. PM Shehbaz thanked the Gates Foundation for its consistent support in Pakistan’s fight against polio. He highlighted that the foundation’s assistance has played an important role in protecting children and communities across the country.
During the discussion, PM Shehbaz stressed the urgent need for stronger cooperation to achieve complete eradication of polio. He noted that Pakistan has made progress but still faces serious challenges in fully eliminating the disease. The premier also praised the Gates Foundation’s humanitarian role during the devastating 2022 floods. He said the foundation’s timely relief efforts were a lifeline for affected communities. PM Shehbaz added that the foundation’s support during recent floods had once again proved valuable and impactful.
In addition to healthcare and relief work, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the Gates Foundation’s role in supporting Pakistan’s digitalization and economic reform efforts. He emphasized that these initiatives are not only improving governance but also contributing to sustainable development across the country.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment from PM Shehbaz and Bill Gates to continue working together in the future. Both sides agreed that their partnership would strengthen Pakistan’s health sector, boost humanitarian relief efforts, and contribute to broader national development goals.
