KP Issues Hunting Permits For Markhor, Ibex, Grey Coral Worth $1.9M

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Wildlife Department has set a new record by auctioning trophy hunting permits worth more than $1.9 million. The permits were issued for Markhor, Ibex, and the newly introduced Grey Coral, making this season one of the most profitable for the province.

According to officials, the auction of 39 permits generated $1,913,842. This included long-standing permits for Markhor and Ibex, as well as the first-ever Grey Coral permit. The addition of Grey Coral is expected to attract more hunters and expand opportunities in KP’s trophy hunting program.

Special Assistant for Wildlife Pir Musawar Khan highlighted that the trophy hunting initiative is about more than just revenue. He said the income will support wildlife protection, habitat conservation, and development projects in local communities near conservation areas. This ensures that both wildlife and residents benefit from the program.

KP authorities stressed that the growing interest from international hunters shows the global popularity of the province’s trophy hunting efforts. Officials added that the funds will help strengthen conservation work across vulnerable ecosystems.

In a separate announcement, the KP Wildlife Department allowed limited hunting of Russian doves until October 31. Licensed hunters can hunt only on weekends and must follow strict limits. Violations will result in fines of Rs5,000 per bird.

The department has also banned hunting in 57 dams, lakes, rivers, and ponds until December. Additional rules restrict the use of electronic devices, call birds, and set a maximum limit of five waterfowl per hunter each day.

KP’s trophy hunting program continues to balance conservation with community uplift. The latest revenue boost highlights the province’s success in protecting wildlife while generating sustainable income.
