PM Shehbaz Sharif is set to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House tomorrow. The main focus of the meeting will be peace in Gaza and efforts to end the ongoing conflict.
PM Shehbaz will travel to Washington from New York today, accompanied by senior Pakistani officials. The talks follow his participation in a major Arab-Islamic summit in New York, where leaders discussed the worsening situation in Gaza and humanitarian concerns.
During the summit, PM Shehbaz met with leaders from Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, and Turkey. Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed readiness to mediate. Jordan’s King Abdullah and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described their discussions as constructive.
PM Shehbaz praised Trump for his commitment to peace, calling him “a champion of peace.” He highlighted Trump’s role in preventing potential conflict between Pakistan and India and emphasized the importance of negotiation for a long-term solution between Palestinians and Israelis.
The US President also stressed the need to stop the war and secure the release of hostages. He noted that recognizing Palestine as a state without addressing security concerns could reward Hamas’ actions. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a permanent resolution is only possible through negotiations and cooperation.
In Washington, PM Shehbaz and Trump will exchange views on further diplomatic and humanitarian measures. Both leaders aim to strengthen collaboration to bring stability to the region.
