Punjab Announces Heavy Fine for Schools Lacking Colorful Dustbins

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the launch of a Smart Waste Management System in all public and private schools across the province.

According to a government notification, schools must install five colour-coded bins for waste segregation by September 30, 2025, with inspections starting October 1, 2025. Non-compliance will result in fines. Yellow bins will be for paper, green for bottles, red for glass and lab waste, while metals will be placed in designated bins for recycling.

The project will be supervised by Senior Minister for Environment Maryam Aurangzeb, with Education Minister Rana Sikandar and Local Government Minister Zeeshan Malik tasked with implementation. Monitoring teams will ensure compliance, and schools meeting requirements will receive honorary certificates.

As cleanliness it everyone’s right and duty as well, Clean and Healthy Environment Declared a Fundamental Right in Pakistan
