Former Saudi ambassador Dr. Ali Awad Al-Asiri confirmed that the protocol extended to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif matched that previously given to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Al-Asiri described the recent Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defence agreement as a historic strategic alliance. He noted that the agreement reflects years of continuous dialogue and highlights the deep, long-standing partnership between Riyadh and Islamabad.
The ambassador emphasized that the protocol for Shehbaz underscores Pakistan’s rising diplomatic stature. He also mentioned Pakistan’s active participation in the UN High-Level Conference on the Two-State Solution, further demonstrating the country’s role on the global stage.
Saudi Arabia has maintained a special relationship with Pakistan for decades. Defence cooperation began in the 1960s, with the first formal agreement signed in 1967. Pakistan also provided technical support to Saudi civil aviation and airlines, while military collaboration was formalized through a 1982 agreement.
Over 20,000 Pakistani personnel were stationed in Tabuk and other sensitive regions. In the 2000s, counter-terrorism became a central focus of cooperation between the two nations.
The current protocol extended to Shehbaz signifies the high level of respect and trust Saudi Arabia places in Pakistan’s leadership. Analysts say this demonstrates a milestone in strategic, military, and diplomatic relations.
Experts believe the agreement will strengthen future defence coordination and further solidify Pakistan’s role in regional security. The protocol and defence pact highlight the growing importance of Islamabad in Gulf affairs and international diplomacy.
This historic recognition underlines the enduring bonds between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.
