Pakistan-Saudi Agreement Forms New Security Axis In Muslim World

The recently signed Pakistan-Saudi Agreement has reshaped the security dynamics of the Gulf and beyond. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sealed a historic mutual defense pact, uniting the Muslim world’s only nuclear power with its wealthiest kingdom.

The agreement forms a security shield for the Gulf and a deterrent against aggression. For the first time, two of the region’s most influential powers have pledged to stand together without exceptions. The pact states that an attack on one nation will be treated as an attack on both, making it unprecedented in the Muslim world.

The Pakistan-Saudi Agreement combines Pakistan’s strong military with Saudi Arabia’s economic weight. Pakistan is ranked 12th out of 145 countries in the 2025 Global Firepower Index, while Saudi Arabia has a nominal GDP of $1.14 trillion. Together, they offer both military capability and financial resources to counter threats.

The timing of the agreement is critical. It comes days after Israel’s missile strikes on Qatar, which raised questions about the reliability of U.S. security guarantees in the Gulf. Many Arab nations may now consider shifting their reliance toward this new axis.

For rivals like India and Israel, the development has caused concern. Pakistan’s proven military strength, including its air force capabilities, adds weight to the alliance. India, which depends on Saudi investments and has millions of workers in the Kingdom, faces new strategic challenges.

Looking ahead, the pact could expand into a broader regional defense structure. Reports suggest a NATO-style force of up to 2 million soldiers may be formed, with Pakistan leading training and coordination.

In the long run, the Pakistan-Saudi Agreement signals the beginning of a structured Muslim world military alliance. With Pakistan’s nuclear backing and Saudi Arabia’s financial clout, this partnership could reshape both regional and global security.
