Lahore Reports First Confirmed Monkeypox Case

The first confirmed case of monkeypox has been detected in Lahore, with the patient shifted to the isolation ward of General Hospital.

Jinnah Hospital MS Prof Faryad Hussain said the health department’s reference lab confirmed the infection after testing the patient’s samples. The patient, who arrived with high fever and body rashes, had a history of a liver transplant and had also lost an arm in an accident.

Prof Hussain added that the patient is receiving full medical care. He noted that 17 suspected cases have been reported so far, but only one has tested positive.

Pakistan’s first confirmed monkeypox case surfaced in Islamabad in August, when a resident of Attock tested positive after returning from a Gulf country.

Monkeypox, now called Mpox, is a rare viral disease with symptoms similar to smallpox, beginning with fever, chills, and later a rash that spreads across the body. While most cases resolve on their own, health experts caution that the virus can spread through close contact and advise people to remain careful
