Ayesha Omar Defends ‘Lazawal Ishq’ As Drama Faces Online Backlash

Pakistani actress Ayesha Omar has defended her upcoming reality show Lazawal Ishq, which has already sparked strong debate across social media platforms.

Promoted as Pakistan’s first love-centered reality series, the show’s promo went viral soon after its release. While some viewers drew comparisons with Love Island, others demanded that it be banned, calling the concept inappropriate for local audiences.

The promo begins with Ayesha Omar in a red gown, introducing viewers to a villa in Istanbul’s Bosphorus. Contestants, mostly unfamiliar faces, are seen preparing to take part in the competition. Social media reactions, however, remained divided. While some critics attacked the format as unsuitable, others argued that the outrage was exaggerated, pointing out that many of the same critics watch international dating shows without issue.

Addressing the backlash, Ayesha Omar stated that Lazawal Ishq is not a copy of Love Island and is not just a dating program. She stressed that the format has been carefully adapted to align with cultural and social values. According to her, the show will ultimately highlight long-term commitment, ending in marriage rather than casual relationships.

Omar also revealed that Lazawal Ishq is an official adaptation of the Turkish show Aşk Adası, produced in collaboration with a Turkish company. Filming is currently taking place in Istanbul, with Pakistani contestants included in the cast.

Following public complaints, Pemra issued a clarification, noting that it has no authority over the show since it will only stream on YouTube and not on licensed television channels.

Ayesha Omar described Lazawal Ishq as a groundbreaking project for Urdu-speaking viewers around the world. Contestants will pair up and compete, with one couple eventually emerging as winners.

Despite the criticism, the show has generated significant curiosity. Lazawal Ishq is expected to premiere on YouTube soon, with both anticipation and controversy growing by the day.
