Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali on Friday directed all pharmacies in the district to stop selling sleep and insomnia medicines without a valid doctor’s prescription.
An official from the DC office warned that strict action would be taken against medical stores found violating the order. Although such medicines are legally restricted to prescription use, many outlets had reportedly been dispensing them without proper checks.
Under the new directive, pharmacies may only sell sleep-related drugs if customers present a prescription from a registered medical practitioner. The DC said the move is intended to curb misuse and protect public health.
