Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet US President Donald Trump on September 25 during the UN General Assembly in New York, diplomatic sources told The News International. The meeting follows consultations with Qatar and Saudi Arabia, both backing the engagement. Sharif will be accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Talks are likely to focus on Israel’s strike on Qatar and its regional fallout, along with Pakistan’s flood recovery and broader geopolitical issues. Neither Pakistan’s UN mission nor its Washington embassy has confirmed the meeting.
The development comes after Trump recently praised Munir during a White House luncheon, contrasting Washington’s warming ties with Islamabad against increasingly strained relations with New Delhi.
