High-Speed Train to Connect Islamabad and Rawalpindi in 20 Minutes

The federal government has announced a high-speed rail service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ease traffic and improve public transport.

The project will cut travel time to just 20 minutes, offering a fast, affordable, and eco-friendly option for thousands of daily commuters.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, with senior officials from CDA, Railways, and local administration. The service will run between Margalla Station in Islamabad and Saddar Station in Rawalpindi, with modern trains imported for the route.

The Ministry of Railways will handle track infrastructure, while CDA will manage operations. Railways Minister Abbasi called it the “best public welfare project,” saving both time and fuel.

Interior Minister Naqvi said the project reflects PM Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to provide quality urban travel facilities, while Minister Talal Chaudhry emphasized its role in reducing road traffic and commuter costs
