Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has highlighted the urgent need for long-term measures to reduce flood losses in Pakistan. He warned that the state cannot afford to lose lives and property every year due to recurring floods.
The Army Chief visited Kasur Sector and the Flood Relief Camp in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan, on Saturday. He was received by the Corps Commanders of Lahore and Multan, along with the Chief Secretary Punjab and senior civil officials, to review ongoing flood relief operations.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS received detailed briefings on rescue and relief work in Kasur and Multan. While meeting civil officials, he stressed the importance of effective governance, inclusive development, and fast infrastructural improvements to minimize future flood losses.
“The state cannot afford the loss of precious lives and properties every year,” Field Marshal Munir said. He urged authorities to implement proactive steps to protect vulnerable populations from recurring disasters. The COAS also emphasized strong civil-military cooperation to ensure efficient aid delivery and rehabilitation.
During his visit, the Army Chief interacted with evacuated flood victims and assured them of continued support in resettlement. Families expressed gratitude for the Pakistan Army’s timely assistance. He also met troops, Rescue 1122 personnel, and police officers, praising their dedication and high morale in delivering aid under challenging conditions.
Later, Field Marshal Munir conducted aerial reconnaissance of flood-hit areas along Lahore–Kasur and Multan–Jalalpur Pirwala routes. He personally assessed the extent of destruction and the progress of relief efforts.
The COAS reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at reducing flood losses and protecting communities. Coordinated efforts between civil administration and the military, he said, are essential to prevent repeated tragedies in Pakistan.
