The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned several Pakistani social media influencers in connection with the promotion of online gambling applications. Official notices were issued earlier this week, directing them to appear before investigators on September 9.
According to NCCIA documents, YouTuber Rajab Butt, along with influencers Iqra Kanwal and Muhammad Anas Ali, has been asked to respond to the allegations. Authorities claim these influencers promoted gambling apps and encouraged their followers to invest in them.
The notice further accuses Rajab Butt of using his platform to mislead people into online betting schemes. Investigators allege that these promotions exploited vulnerable youth and created financial risks for users. The NCCIA warned that failure to attend the hearing would be treated as a lack of defence.
Rajab Butt’s lawyer, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed that his client will present a legal response. He said the case is being reviewed carefully, and a detailed written statement will be submitted to the agency on the scheduled date.
This development comes after the recent arrest of Saad-ur-Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, on similar charges. He was taken into custody at Lahore Airport and remains under investigation for promoting gambling platforms. His remand was extended as officials continue probing his online activities.
The rise of digital platforms has given influencers a powerful reach, but it has also raised concerns about promoting illegal activities. Authorities argue that advertising gambling apps not only violates local laws but also exposes users to harmful financial consequences.
With multiple influencers now facing scrutiny, the NCCIA has signaled a stricter approach to tackling the online gambling industry in Pakistan. The outcome of these investigations could set a precedent for how the state regulates digital content and influencer marketing.
