Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday said that the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz must be properly recognised.
Maryam Nawaz recently visited Kasur and held a press conference to highlight the severe impact of floods in Punjab. She urged the federal government to provide assistance through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for affected families.
Bilawal acknowledged the provincial government’s efforts but stressed that Punjab could not handle the flood crisis alone. He called on the federal government to extend support to families in need, similar to previous flood responses.
The PPP chairman recommended declaring an agricultural emergency in the flood-affected areas. He said farmers should receive seeds, fertilisers, and concessional loans to rebuild their livelihoods.
He also emphasised that compensation must be based on accurate damage assessments. Additionally, he suggested relief in electricity bills for farmers until the complete rehabilitation of affected communities.
Bilawal highlighted the importance of continued support to ensure that victims of floods can recover fully. He said collaboration between provincial and federal governments is critical during such emergencies.
On the political front, Bilawal stated that there would be no controversial actions, calling for unity across parties. He also criticised India for withholding flood-related information, saying this ignored humanitarian concerns.
His comments underline the need for coordinated efforts to address natural disasters in Punjab. By supporting CM Maryam’s initiatives, federal and provincial authorities can help families recover faster.
The remarks by Bilawal show a focus on humanitarian response and practical solutions for flood-affected communities. They also stress the importance of recognising effective leadership during crises.
