Azma Bukhari Apologizes for Remarks on Women’s Attire

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has expressed regret over her controversial remarks about women’s clothing, admitting that her statement was inappropriate.

Speaking on a private TV program, she said that as a woman, she understands the criticism women face regarding their attire.

Her apology came after a press conference in which she defended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz by saying critics should reflect on their own households, where “some mothers don’t even consider it appropriate to wear clothes.”

Bukhari clarified that she should not have made such remarks and noted that women, including herself as a mother, are often unfairly judged “from head to toe.”

She condemned the constant criticism of Maryam Nawaz’s dress and the derogatory language used against women in politics, calling it unacceptable. She added that a deliberate campaign targets women in PML-N, especially Maryam Nawaz, and questioned why critics ignore her work for Punjab while focusing only on her clothing.
