Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to suspend all political activities for one week in areas affected by recent floods. This move is meant to show solidarity with the flood victims and focus on relief efforts.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar spoke to SAMAA’s special correspondent in Islamabad. He said Punjab is going through a very difficult time due to severe flooding. He urged everyone to come forward and support those affected by the disaster.
In another important development, 19 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), affiliated with PTI, have resigned from their posts on National Assembly standing committees. Their resignations were submitted to the Speaker’s Office.
Among the members who resigned are Barrister Gohar himself, Aamir Dogar, Waqas Akram, and Sher Afzal Marwat. PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar stated that many PTI lawmakers have already resigned from these committees. He added that the process of resignation is still ongoing.
Barrister Gohar mentioned that PTI made several attempts to remain part of the political system and to engage in dialogue. However, these efforts did not succeed. He noted that negotiations have now completely stopped.
The Speaker’s Office confirmed receiving the resignations from the SIC members. Additionally, the council said more resignations will be submitted by September 1.
This suspension of political activities by PTI reflects the party’s intention to prioritize relief work in flood-affected regions. It also highlights the party’s current stance regarding its role in the political system.
PTI continues to urge all political parties and citizens to unite and assist those affected by the floods. The party emphasizes that support and cooperation are crucial during this challenging time. Further updates regarding the situation are expected in the coming days.
