FIA Set To Unveil AI System To Combat Human Trafficking

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) system to combat human smuggling in Pakistan. This AI-powered platform aims to improve immigration procedures and strengthen border security.

The FIA plans to pilot this system at Islamabad International Airport. Officials say this move will modernize border management and make passenger processing faster. The AI system is designed to detect trafficking attempts more effectively and reduce long waiting times for travelers.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was briefed about the project during a high-level meeting at the FIA headquarters. He approved funding for IT upgrades and ordered the renovation of the FIA headquarters. The minister also asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to provide land for a new FIA Academy.

The FIA is also addressing staff shortages by starting recruitment for vacant positions. Minister Naqvi emphasized the importance of performance, stating that resources will be provided but results are expected.

FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar updated the minister on recent reforms, including amendments to the FIA Act and the agency’s digital transformation. The FIA has introduced an e-office system, where official notices will carry QR codes for better transparency.

This AI initiative builds on previous FIA efforts to fight human trafficking. In 2023, the FIA set up a second-line border control facility at Islamabad Airport. This facility includes advanced forensic tools and IT equipment, supported by the European Union and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

Officials believe the new FIA AI system will boost national security by disrupting trafficking networks. It will also improve the overall experience for passengers by making immigration processes quicker and safer.

The FIA’s adoption of modern technology marks a significant step in Pakistan’s fight against human smuggling and border crimes.
