Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has made history by winning the PFA Player of the Year award for the third time. This achievement marks him as the first player ever to win this prestigious award three times. Salah, 33, had a remarkable 2024/25 season, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals. He also provided 18 assists, helping Liverpool secure their 20th league title.
The PFA award is voted for by fellow players, making it a respected honor in English football. Salah first won the PFA Player of the Year in 2018 and again in 2022. This year, he topped a shortlist that included top players like Alexis Mac Allister, Alexander Isak, Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice, and Cole Palmer.
In addition to the PFA Player of the Year, Salah won the Premier League Player of the Season, Golden Boot, and Playmaker Award in the same season. This makes him the first player to claim all three awards in one campaign.
The PFA also recognized other outstanding players. Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa was named Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals and a Champions League hat-trick. Mariona Caldentey from Arsenal won the Women’s Player of the Year award. Olivia Smith, Liverpool’s top scorer last season, was named Women’s Young Player of the Year. She recently transferred to Arsenal for a record-breaking fee.
The PFA Premier League Team of the Year included Salah, Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister. Other players in the team were from Arsenal, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest.
Salah’s historic third PFA win confirms his place among football’s greats. His consistency and skill continue to impress fans and players alike. The PFA award remains a key measure of a player’s impact on the league and their peers’ respect.
