Water Levels Rise Sharply; Rawal And Khanpur Dam Spillways To Open Today

Heavy rains have caused water levels in Rawal and Khanpur dams to rise significantly. Authorities will open the spillways today at 1:30 PM to control the water flow.

Rawal Dam’s water level reached 1,751 feet, prompting officials to release excess water safely. Assistant Commissioner Nilore will oversee the spillway opening and ensure smooth operations.

Rescue, security, and medical teams are on alert near the dam. The district administration advised residents to avoid the dam area to stay safe during the water discharge.

At the same time, Khanpur Dam’s water level climbed to 1,980.80 feet due to continuous rainfall. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) plans to open Khanpur’s spillways today for six hours.

NDMA has warned residents of Hassan Abdal, Attock, and nearby areas to stay alert. They urged locals to follow safety instructions and prepare for any possible flooding caused by rising water.

Both dams are closely monitored by officials to manage water levels effectively. The spillways’ controlled opening will help prevent flooding and reduce pressure on the dams.

Water management is crucial during this monsoon season, as heavy rains continue to affect the region. Authorities remain vigilant to avoid any damage or loss of life.

Residents are advised to stay updated with official announcements and cooperate with emergency teams. Proper water control through spillways ensures safety and minimizes risks during the flood season.

In summary, the opening of spillways at Rawal and Khanpur dams is a necessary step to regulate water levels. Officials emphasize caution as water discharge begins to protect communities nearby.
