Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the rollout of the Raast payment system to all districts across Pakistan. He made these remarks during a high-level review meeting focused on the country’s shift to a digital and cashless economy.

Raast is Pakistan’s digital payment platform aimed at simplifying financial transactions. It allows secure and instant transfers between individuals and government entities. The platform supports public-to-government (P2G) and government-to-public (G2P) payments, increasing transparency and efficiency.
During the meeting, officials updated the Prime Minister on key developments. Pakistan’s Digital Public Infrastructure will soon introduce digital IDs. These IDs will combine data like national identity cards, biometrics, and mobile numbers. This integration will make using Raast easier and more seamless for everyone.
Provincial governments have made good progress linking their payment systems with Raast. This cooperation between federal and provincial authorities is vital to the platform’s success. The meeting also discussed infrastructure support. The Federal Development Authority has approved fiber connectivity to strengthen digital networks needed for Raast. Talks are ongoing with Pakistan Railways and the National Highway Authority to support this work.
The meeting included several federal ministers and senior officials. Among them were the Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and IT Minister Shaza Fatima. Their presence highlighted the government’s strong focus on digital transformation.
