The Punjab Transport Department has announced a 5% reduction in bus and rail fares across the province. This decision follows a recent decrease in petroleum prices. The move aims to make travel more affordable for commuters throughout Punjab.
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has ordered all bus terminals to apply the new fares immediately. Updated fare lists must be displayed clearly for passengers. The diesel price drop of Rs12.84 per liter triggered the fare adjustments.
Several major routes in Punjab saw fare reductions between Rs50 and Rs300. For example, the fare from Lahore to Sargodha has been reduced by Rs50, now costing Rs1,060. The Lahore to Islamabad fare decreased by Rs100 to Rs1,950. Other significant cuts include Lahore to Peshawar, reduced by Rs120, and Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan, down by Rs140.
Rail fares also saw reductions. The Lahore to Karachi train fare dropped by Rs320 and is now Rs6,040. The Lahore to Hyderabad route’s fare decreased by Rs300, fixing it at Rs5,800.
The RTA secretary confirmed that officials are inspecting bus stands to ensure compliance with the new fare structure. “We are coordinating with transporters, and the new fares are effective from today,” he stated.
This fare reduction in Punjab aims to ease the financial burden on daily travelers. The transport department emphasized transparency and passenger convenience as key goals.
With fuel prices falling, Punjab’s initiative offers timely relief to commuters using bus and rail services. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to maintain fair pricing and service quality.
