The Punjab government has finalized the payment structure for the new E-Taxi program. This initiative aims to introduce electric taxis in Lahore to promote cleaner and affordable transport.
The project will start with 1,100 electric taxis. The government will support buyers by covering part of the down payment. For vehicles priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, Punjab will pay Rs. 585,000 on behalf of the buyers.
Banks will provide loans up to Rs. 6.5 million to finance the remaining cost. The government will also pay the interest on these loans. This makes it easier for taxi drivers and operators to afford electric vehicles.
The E-Taxi service is designed to reduce air pollution and lower transport costs. It will help modernize urban travel in Punjab’s major cities. Officials have set aside Rs. 2 billion for this project to ensure its smooth rollout.
To support the E-Taxi fleet, 18 charging stations are already operational in Lahore. Plans are in place to expand this charging network to other areas as the program grows.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the financing plan. She emphasizes that the E-Taxi program will benefit both the environment and public transportation users. The electric taxis are expected to bring cleaner air and better rides for commuters.
This move aligns with global trends toward electric vehicles and sustainable urban transport. The Punjab government aims to be a leader in adopting green technology for public transit.
In summary, the E-Taxi program in Punjab offers financial support to buyers, expands charging infrastructure, and promotes eco-friendly travel. This initiative marks an important step toward a cleaner and more efficient transport system in Pakistan.
