Met Office Warns of Heavy Rain with Flood and Landslide Risks Nationwide

The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain across multiple regions, warning of potential flooding and landslides.

Rain is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, upper Punjab, northeastern and southern Balochistan, southeastern Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy showers are likely tonight in upper KP, Potohar, Kashmir, and nearby hilly areas, with more rain on Saturday in upper KP, Potohar, and Kashmir. Tomorrow evening or night, northeastern and southern Balochistan, southern Punjab, and southeastern Sindh could also see rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

The Met Office cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in streams and nullahs of upper KP, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Potohar, and northeastern Punjab. In mountainous regions like Murree, Galliyat, and parts of KP and GB, landslides may disrupt transport. Strong winds and downpours could also damage weak structures, mud houses, walls, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

Over the next 24 hours, showers are expected in parts of KP, northern Punjab, Sindh’s southeastern districts, Balochistan’s northeast and south, as well as various areas in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Recent records show Lower Dir in KP received 98 mm of rain, the highest in the past day, while Dalbandin and Nokundi in Balochistan saw the highest temperatures at 43°C.
