The Ministry of Railways has released income and expenditure data for Pakistan Railways from FY 2022–23 to the ongoing FY 2024–25.
Over the past three years, the department recorded a cumulative loss of Rs. 6 billion. In 2022–23, revenue stood at Rs. 63.718 billion against expenses of Rs. 72.178 billion, resulting in an Rs. 8.460 billion deficit.
In 2023–24, earnings increased to Rs. 88.792 billion, while expenditures were slightly lower at Rs. 88.380 billion, generating a modest surplus of over Rs. 410 million.
For the current fiscal year 2024–25, revenue has so far reached Rs. 93.382 billion, compared to expenses of Rs. 91.120 billion, leading to a profit of Rs. 2.262 billion.
The report further highlighted that Rs. 1.157 billion was spent on subsidized tickets for journalists, students, senior citizens, employees, and other eligible groups.
